The Brandon Aaron Mabry Scholarship

The Brandon Aaron Mabry Scholarship exists to open doors for young men who have grown up in foster care and are ready to build their own futures. We believe that the circumstances of a childhood should never define the limits of a life, and that every young man leaving the foster system deserves a real chance at the education and training that will carry him forward.

Named in honor of Brandon Aaron Mabry — a 2007 graduate of Midland Valley High School who competed on both the basketball court and the football field as a Mustang — this scholarship carries his memory into the lives of the young men it supports. Brandon knew what it meant to compete, to push through adversity, and to give everything he had to the teams and people who counted on him. In that same spirit, we award this scholarship to male seniors in foster care who have shown determination in the classroom and the resolve to keep moving forward, whether their path leads to a college campus or a trade.

Our mission is simple: to remove a barrier, to honor a life, and to invest in young men who are ready to prove what they can become.

Midland Valley High School, Class of 2007

Brandon Aaron Mabry was a two-sport athlete at Midland Valley High School, taking the court in basketball and the field in football as a proud Mustang. Those who watched him compete remember the effort he brought to every game and the way he lifted the people around him, whether teammates, coaches, or friends.

This scholarship is dedicated to Brandon's memory and to the values he embodied — resilience, effort, and the belief that no one should have to face the future alone. Each young man who receives this award carries a piece of Brandon's legacy with him: a reminder that heart and determination can leave a mark that outlasts any single season.

Brandon's story continues in every recipient who steps onto a campus or into a trade, chasing a future he would have been proud to see. His spirit lives on in their striving.

About the scholarship

The Brandon Aaron Mabry Scholarship supports young men who have grown up in the foster care system and are pursuing higher education or vocational training. This award recognizes resilience, determination, and the pursuit of a brighter future beyond high school.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Gender:Male
Class standing:High school senior in the current graduating class
Foster status:Must be a current or former foster child (documentation of foster care placement required)
Academic standing:Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
Future plans:Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college, university, or trade/vocational school for the upcoming academic year

Required Application Materials

Completed application form
Official high school transcript (verifying senior standing and minimum 2.0 GPA)
Proof of foster care status (letter from a caseworker, agency, or court documentation)
Proof of college/trade school acceptance or enrollment intent (acceptance letter, application confirmation, or enrollment verification)
Personal essay (see prompt below)
One letter of recommendation (from a teacher, counselor, caseworker, mentor, or coach)

Essay Prompt

In 500–750 words, describe your journey through the foster care system and how it has shaped your goals. What do you hope to achieve through college or trade school, and how will this scholarship help you get there?

Selection Criteria

The committee will evaluate applicants based on:

40%:Strength and sincerity of the personal essay
25%:Demonstrated resilience and character
20%:Clarity of educational and career goals
15%:Academic record and letter of recommendation

Award Details

Amount: $250
Number of awards: 1 per year
Disbursement: Funds paid directly to the recipient's chosen institution toward tuition, fees, books, or required supplies
Renewable: One-time; non-renewable
